The lists include an overall dream list, and lists by sector, including, boys', girls' and preschool. Gary Grant, chairman of the TRA, comments: "This year, the top 72 toys really reflect the innovation and expertise at work in the U.K. toy industry. From clever new twists on old favorites to ingenious use of new technologies, this selection strikes the balance between familiar brands and the new kids on the block.
"It has been a challenging year for all businesses, but as a retailer I am delighted to see innovation continuing to come through. Even in an economic downturn, children still need exciting, good value toys to entertain and inspire their creativity," he says.

This year's "Dream Dozen" toys are:

• Star Wars Clone Trooper Voice Changer from Hasbro.

In the girls' list, music is the theme with product including the Bratz Girls Really Rock Dolls (MGA Entertainment), High School Musical Sing Together Dolls and the film-inspired Camp Rock Gift Pack (both Mattel) making it onto the list, together with Barbie Princess Liana Singing Doll (Mattel). Other toys on the girls' list include Chou Chou My First Tooth (Zapf Creation), I Love Ponies Honey My Baby Pony (Vivid Imaginations), FurReal Biscuit My Loving Pup (Hasbro), Sylvanian Families Old Hollow Oak Treehouse (Flair Leisure Products), and the Littlest Pet Shop range (Hasbro).

 For boys, nearly all of the selection are licensed television characters. The lists includes Cars Walkin' Talkin McQueen (Mattel), Air Hogs Zero Gravity Micro (Spinmaster), Gormiti Island Gorm Playset (Flair Leisure Products) and WWE RAW Arena Playset (Vivid Imaginations). Also on the list are Wall.E Transforming Robot (Vivid Imaginations) plus Power Rangers Overdrive Tracker (Bandai), Transformers Animated Roll Out Command Optimus Prime, Indiana Jones Hat & Whip Set and the Clone Wars AT-TE Vehicle and Star Wars Clone Trooper Voice Changer (all Hasbro).

The preschool list includes Bob The Builder Interactive Construction Site (Born to Play), Take Along Thomas Morgan's Mine Electronic Playset (RC2), Roary the Racing Car Silver Hatch Workshop Playset (Vivid Imaginations), Playmobil's Recycling Truck, Peppa Pig's Spaceship (Character Options), Playskool Kota The Triceratops (Hasbro), Mr Tickle Stretch and Giggle or Elmo Live! The TRA has 250 members accounting for 60 percent of U.K. toy retailers, while the British Toy and Hobby Association represents over 150 members accounting for over 90 percent of toys sold in the U.K. market.
