International fashion retailer Inditex, whose fascias include Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull & Bear and Bershka, reported sales of €2,338 million ($3,290 million) in first quarter 2009 on a local currency basis, up 8 percent on the same period in 2008. Net profit for the quarter was €184 million ($259 million), a drop of 16 percent.In recent trading, from May 1 to June 7, sales at the Spanish group were up 9 percent.
Inditex opened 95 new stores in the first quarter, bringing its total to 4,359 stores in 73 countries. It plans to open between 370 and 450 new stores this year.
