U.K. sustainable and Fair Trade fashion brand People Tree is partnering with British band Keane to produce a tour T-shirt—the first time the brand has signed a music tour license.

Creative consultancy 999 worked with People Tree and Keane to develop designs for a men's and a women's T-shirt, taking inspiration from Keane's Perfect Symmetry album artwork.

"We are delighted to work with People Tree on our tour T-shirts," says Keane's Tom Chaplin. "We are passionate about being as ethical as possible with all our packaging and merchandise, so we thought it fitting to work with one of the world's most pioneering Fair Trade fashion brands."

The T-shirts are made in India by Assisi, one of People Tree's largest Fair Trade producer groups, and will be sold via Keane's Web site at www.keanemusic.com from July 6 and on the Canadian tour at the end of this year. There will be a limited-edition run of only 500 across both men's and women's styles.

"Band merchandise is a new area for People Tree, but one we are excited about," says Antony Waller, spokesperson for People Tree. "Music and fashion have a great synergy, so it seems a perfect avenue to continue delivering the Fair Trade agenda. Having such a tried and tested relationship with a company of 999's quality and reputation made them an obvious choice to work on the designs for Keane and we look forward to developing this relationship."

999 is also working with People Tree on a co-branded autumn/winter 2009 collection for a broad range of products.
