Toys ‘R’ Us has appointed Andre Javes as managing director of Southeast Asia and Greater China, where he will oversee all operations and business activities for the company’s wholly owned stores in Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand and provide oversight for the company’s licensed stores in the Philippines and Macau.
Javes, who previously served as managing director of Toys ‘R’ Us Australia, first joined TRU in 2008 as general merchandise manager for toy and juvenile products.
“Andre has done a terrific job in improving our business, developing the team and strengthening business partner relationships in Australia, and we look forward to his contributions as we continue to accelerate the growth of our business in Southeast Asia and Greater China,” says Monika Merz, president, Toys ‘R’ Us, Asia Pacific, to whom Javes will report.
Throughout his 30-year career, Javes has also served as chief executive officer at Anaconda Group where he managed a retail chain of camping, outdoor and adventure gear stores across Australia, and at Kmart as divisional merchandise manager for toy and outdoor products in Australia and New Zealand.
“Southeast Asia and Greater China represent the most significant growth areas for the company, and I am excited to join the team as we continue to expand our business aggressively throughout the region,” says Javes.
