ITV Studios Global Entertainment has announced plans for a Classic Thunderbirds themed exhibition in Japan.
Called “Thunderbirds and The Future of Science,” the exhibition will be held at Miraikan, Tokyo’s national museum of emerging science and innovation, and will introduce attendees to technology that could shape tomorrow’s world. It will run from July 10 to Sept. 23.
A number of companies will demonstrate real-world advanced machinery and technologies from today’s Japan that visitors can then compare with the future lifestyles and technologies predicted by the classic super-marionation action show “Thunderbirds” nearly 50 years ago.
The exhibition will also include a Thunderbirds screening theater, a gallery of models of vehicles and gadgets from the show and an interactive attraction that will give visitors the chance to become part of a rescue team on a mission with Thunderbird 2.
The brand will also be prominent in the museum shop, which will stock various official goods as well as products in limited release at the exhibition.
“This exhibition not only celebrates the enduring popularity of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s creation, but shows just how ingenious and far-sighted the ‘Thunderbirds’ series was,” says Trudi Hayward, senior vice president, head of global merchandising, ITVS GE. “Bringing Thunderbirds technology and today’s technology together is a great way to introduce visitors of all ages to the scientific advances that are changing their lives today.”
