The new “Star Trek into Darkness” app from Paramount Pictures and Qualcomm is now available for iOS and Android devices.
Based on the upcoming sequel to the 2009 film Star Trek, the app gives fans access to content from the upcoming movie, as well as the opportunity to participate in missions and win prizes.
Also, until the film’s premier May 17, the app will give users the chance to unlock secret content and experiences, the first of which was available during the second quarter of the Super Bowl Sunday. Players collect points, see content and work their way through the Star Trek Academy.
When he introduced the new app in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of Qualcomm, said the app "harnesses the power of the smartphone to bridge the digital and physical world, allowing the studio to market the film in the real world and simultaneously bring users into the film's story and world."
