Nickelodeon offered a first look at its new Dora the Explorer spinoff series, “Dora and Friends: Into the City,” Thursday at an event in New York City.
The new educational series will follow a slightly older Dora as she moves into a pan-Latino metropolis called Playa Verde.
Armed with a magic charm bracelet and her trusted Map App, the series will see Dora enter a diverse new school and go on adventures in this magical new city. Music will feature prominently in the new series.
“Dora and Friends” is designed to make Dora "more contemporary and aspirational for today's preschoolers," as Nickelodeon’s Ron Johnson told License! Global in the October 2013 feature “Turtle Time and Beyond.”
The show is slated to debut this summer in Nickelodeon’s preschool block alongside “Dora the Explorer,” and will be accompanied by a full consumer products program. Nickelodeon will unveil some of the line at New York Toy Fair the week of Feb. 17, which will include dolls, plush, play sets and role play products.
