NFLPI Scores New Deals

NFL Players Inc., the licensing and merchandising arm of the NFL Players Association, has scored several new licensing agreements, as well as announced its Top 50 Player Sales list, which quarterly ranks total overall sales of licensed product at retail. The list accounts for all products sold by more than 70 licensees online and through traditional retail outlets and exceeds $1 billion in total sales throughout the year.

New deals for the organization include Athlitacomics for NFL player comic books; FBF Originals for sock and footwear accessories; From the Bench for a NFL player-based mobile game; Masterpieces Puzzle Company for customized real wood craft puzzle sets; New Era for NFL player headwear for men, women and youth; and Original Retro Brand for a vintage t-shirt collection featuring NFL players co-branded with classic logos from more than 100 universities.

The Top 50 Player Sales list, which accounts for retail sales between March 1, 2013, through Feb. 28, 2014, sees nine of the top 10 players occupying the quarterback position and includes six Super Bowl champions. Top 10 players include Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks in the No. 1 spot, Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos (No. 2), Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers (No. 3), Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins (No. 4), Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers (No. 5), Tom Brady of the New England Patriots (No. 6), Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks (No. 7 and the only non-quarterback on the list), Eli Manning of the New York Giants (No. 8), Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts (No. 9) and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints (No. 10) rounding out the list.

Other notable list highlights include Wilson’s top ranking (he jumped from the No. 19 spot in FY13); Pittsburgh Steelers’ Troy Polamalu at No. 20 for the third straight year; Luke Kechly of the Carolina Panthers at No. 50 (his debut on the list); J.J. Watt at No. 11, who is also the highest-ranked defensive player; Green Bay Packers’ Clay Matthews (No. 14) and the San Francisco 49ers’ Patrick Willis (No. 16) representation as the only linebackers in the top 20; and Jason Witten, tight end of the Dallas Cowboys (No. 15), is the highest-ranked pass catcher.
