NBA Revives the Starter Jacket

The National Basketball Association has teamed up with Iconix Brand Group, G-III Sports and former NY Giants football player Carl Banks to bring back the NBA Starter jacket.

Hugely popular in the ’80s and ’90s, the satin jacket was last produced in the mid-’90s. The Starter jacket brand is a joint venture between G-III and Banks, in partnership with Iconix, which owns the Starter brand.

The new Starter x NBA collection will launch this September featuring teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans.

"We are excited to work with the NBA to celebrate basketball fandom and reintroduce the iconic Starter jacket," says Carl Banks, president of G-III Sports, a division of G-III Apparel Group. "We look forward to honoring the brand's sports heritage and fashion tradition, while also reaching a new generation."

A special preview of the line was given during NBA All-Star Week, last Thursday through Saturday, with limited edition All-Star Starter Jackets sold during the NBA All-Star Jam Session Saturday.

"We are thrilled to partner with G-III Apparel Group," says Seth Horowitz, president, men's division, Iconix. "We anticipate that the new collection will allow fans to represent their favorite teams, while showcasing the classic Starter jacket."
