New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, The Walt Disney Company, and Netflix will film the upcoming four-part Marvel live-action television series in New York, marking the largest film or television production project commitment in the state’s history.
Based on the “flawed heroes of Hell’s Kitchen,” the series will be produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, and will include nearly 60 one-hour episodes focused on Marvel’s four Defenders characters: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Filming is set to begin this summer.
"The Defenders are classic New York characters–smart, resourceful and tough enough to always stand up for what's right," says Ted Sarandos, chief content officer, Netflix. "We're delighted they're coming to life on their home turf thanks to Governor Cuomo and his team."
Last November, Disney and Netflix announced the ground-breaking deal to bring the new series exclusively to the Internet TV network beginning in 2015. Click here for more details on the partnership.
