Legoland to Add VR Coasters

The VR roller coaster will make its debut later this year at Legoland Malaysia Resort, followed by Legoland Florida and Legoland Deutschland next year.

GLOBAL–Merlin Entertainment has revealed three of Legoland’s existing “Project X” roller coasters will be transformed into new VR attractions, entitled “The Great LEGO Race.”

Developed under Merlin’s creative and delivery arm, Merlin Magic Making, “The Great LEGO Race” will pit riders against brick-built contraptions driven by popular LEGO minifigures like Trendsetter, Pharaoh, Surfer Girl, Wizard and Pirate Captain via VR headsets, allowing guests to experience the action from every direction.

“‘The Great LEGO Race’ was inspired by the way kids play with LEGO toys at home,” says Candy Holland, senior creative director, Merlin Magic Making. “It’s a unique LEGO adventure that lets kids enter an epic imaginary world made entirely from LEGO bricks, featuring a host of different themes and fun LEGO characters, all mixed up together.”

“The Great LEGO Race” will open in late 2017 at Legoland Malaysia Resort. In 2018, the attraction will open at Legoland Florida Resort and Germany’s Legoland Deutschland Resort.
