Hot Topic Shells Out New Retro Campaign

Hot Topic will launch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles retro boutiques in 700 of its stores. The retro campaign is a joint effort between 4Kids Entertainment and Mirage Licensing and builds on the look from the 1980s TV series. Products headed for shelves in November include an existing selection of Ts and hoodies as well as new products from Giant Merchandising. Bioworld has also created new T-shirt designs, new caps, beanies, and belt buckles, while Hot Topic has secured partners in other product categories such as wrist cuffs, wallets, key chains, and other accessories. The retailer has also been given exclusive access to 1980s villain artwork for Rocksteady, Bebop, and Krang for apparel. 4Kids also expanded the program across other categories including NECA (collectible figures), Etchstar (laser etchings on iPods and laptops), and Disguise (Halloween costumes for lead characters). Product is expected to roll out in early 2008 to specialty and mid-tier retail.
