Putting the Art into Artisan

Artisan Licensing is a new specialist U.K. agency dedicated to design-led intellectual property. Managing director Siobhan Williamson started the business in January following more than 10 years of working in various licensing roles for companies that include Warner Bros., BBC Worldwide and Dorling Kindersley.

Artisan offers a strategic consumer product service for individual artists, designers, studios and institutions by connecting brands with manufacturers and retailers. It aims to bring the best in art and design to a wide audience.

Among Artisan's first clients is graphics designer Bionyc Industries, which wants to boost the profile in the U.K. for its brands Canvas Nation and Bionyc Industries. Williamson also is consulting with De Agostini.

Planet Color Signs with Animax Entertainment

Animax Entertainment, a digital creative agency, has been tapped to develop an online destination for the Planet Color by Todd Parr brand. The site is expected to debut in fourth quarter 2009 or early 2010.

"We are delighted to be working with Todd to create a wholesome, multimedia online playground for kids," says Corey Torrence, chief executive officer of Animax Entertainment. "We see this as an opportunity to leverage our experience building product-connected virtual worlds for leading brands to create something truly unique. We believe that this innovation combined with Todd's recognized artwork will spell success in an increasingly hot online market for young kids."

Parr has had more than 30 children's books published through Little, Brown and Company, including his most recent title "The I Love You Book." Parr's merchandise program for Planet Color already includes apparel and backpacks.

Purple Ronnie Teams with Big Tent for Americas

Coolabi has appointed Big Tent Entertainment to represent its character property Purple Ronnie in North and South America.

Big Tent Entertainment seeks partnerships for the U.K. brand, which appears on greeting cards and books, in social expressions, publishing, apparel, casual games, gifts and novelties.

Carlsson Promoted at The Bright Agency

Specialist children's illustration agency, The Bright Agency, has promoted fiction agent Fredrika Carlsson to senior agent. Her new role is to build markets such as the U.S. and South Korea and expand into new areas such as Japan and Scandinavia.
