U.K. toy store The Entertainer opened its first international location in Dubai last week.
The store debuted Thursday, following a VIP opening event Wednesday. Then on Friday, the new store hosted a family event that was attended by a slew of children’s characters including Ben 10, Hello Kitty, Lalaloopsy and Dora the Explorer.
“2013 has been an important year for The Entertainer; not only have we opened 14 new stores in the U.K., we have expanded the brand internationally,” says Gary Grant, managing director, The Entertainer, who founded the store with his wife Catherine 32 years ago. “I am thrilled to be in Dubai to officially open The Entertainer Dubai and to also meet all the families who are looking forward to experiencing the joy and wonder of our stores.”
The Entertainer has more than 90 stores across the U.K. The Dubai location is the first step in a wider expansion strategy to the Middle East, and was carried out in partnership with the retail group Al Owais Enterprises.
“I’m delighted to see Dubai becoming home to an increasing number of premium British Brands,” says Edward Hobart, Her Majesty’s consul general, Dubai and the Northern Emirates. “As a customer of The Entertainer in the U.K. I am really pleased that The Entertainer are coming here as its first venture outside the U.K.”
