Endemol has appointed new senior management in North America with 51 Minds’ chief executive officer Cris Abrego and Original Media’s chief executive officer Charlie Corwin taking on the roles of co-chairmen and co-chief executive officers of Endemol North America.
Their remit will cover all of Endemol’s North American operations including Endemol USA companies Authentic Entertainment, Endemol Studios, 51 Minds, Original Media and True Entertainment.
Abrego and Corwin will focus on accelerating Endemol’s expansion in the U.S. across network television, cable and digital video while increasing the company's output in both scripted and non-scripted programming.
The announcement of replacements for Abrego and Corwin at 51 Minds and Original Media will be made in due course.
Abrego co-founded 51 Minds in 2003 and the company went on to create a new genre of “celebreality,” starting with the breakout hit “The Surreal Life.” Endemol acquired a majority stake in 51 Minds in April 2008 after which Abrego continued to diversify the company's output.
As chief executive officer and co-founder of Original Media, Corwin has led development of some of the U.S.’s most successful TV series and box office successes. In television, Corwin is widely considered an innovator for his creation of series such as “Miami Ink” for TLC and “Swamp People” for History. Endemol acquired a majority stake in Original Media in November 2007, after which Corwin remained on as CEO and continued to grow the business.
“Charlie and Cris are world-class creative entrepreneurs who have built their respective companies through the creation and production of great, must-watch content during their time within Endemol,” says Tim Hincks, president, Endemol Group. “They combine energy, ambition and vision with an understanding of the values that define Endemol. We couldn’t ask for stronger candidates to lead our North American operations into a new phase of accelerated growth and creativity.”
