CES: Polaroid Debuts Modern Instant Camera

C&A Licensing is unveiling new Polaroid products at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week including plans for a new social instant camera and an expanded collection of sports action cameras.

Polaroid licensee C&A Licensing has finalized an agreement with Socialmatic to create the Polaroid Socialmatic instant camera, which will combine the nostalgic appeal of vintage Polaroid instant cameras with the ability to connect and share photos via social media using the camera’s built in Wi-Fi and Android interface.

"Polaroid was the original social network, allowing people to instantly capture, print and share life’s moments in a way that had never been possible before,” says Scott W. Hardy, president and chief executive officer, Polaroid. “This relationship with Socialmatic allows Polaroid to come full circle and once again allow people to capture and share images in ways that are only possible with a Polaroid camera in their hands.”

The Polaroid Socialmatic camera is on display now at CES and will arrive on shelves this year.

Polaroid and C&A are also debuting an expanded line of sports action cameras at the electronics trade show this week.

Two new point-of-view camera models–the XS100i and the C³–offer high-definition resolution, Wi-Fi, auto rotation, waterproofing, ultra-wide angle lenses and mounting equipment for athletes and action enthusiasts. Both models will be available this summer.

“Polaroid is all about capturing fun, in the moment images and video from the user’s unique point of view and that is what this fast-growing sports action camera category does the best,” says Hardy. “Adding Wi-Fi connectivity to our popular XS100 model will now allow users to share their unique videos and images instantly, which is the heart of what Polaroid is all about.”
