To celebrate that Super Bowl XLVIII will take place in the New York region for the first time ever, Bloomingdale's has collaborated with 48 top fashion designers to create a collection of one-of-a-kind football helmets.
The helmets, which were created in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, will be auctioned off in support of National Football League Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of those touched by the game of football.
“Bloomingdale's New York heritage combined with the fact that Super Bowl XLVIII is taking place in our backyard gives us an opportunity to merge fashion and sports in a modern way,” says Frank Berman, executive vice president of marketing, Bloomingdale's. “Through our unique collaborations, merchandise and special events, we are able to celebrate Super Bowl XLVIII in-store and online bringing the excitement of this iconic event to our shoppers across a variety of touch points, all while supporting the NFL Foundation.”
Among the designers who have contributed helmets to the collection are Betsey Johnson, Catherine Malandrino, Cynthia Rowley, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Badgley Mischka, Mark McNairy, Nicole Miller, Rachel Zoe, Stacey Bendet for Alice + Olivia and Vince Camuto.
The helmets will be unveiled in the Bloomingdale's 59th street windows in New York City on Jan. 15, with the auction taking place online from Jan. 15-Feb. 4.
“This is the first time that the Super Bowl will be held in the New York region, and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate by joining Bloomingdale's and the NFL in merging fashion and sports with the creation of these unique helmets,” says Steven Kolb, chief executive officer, CFDA.
