Debenhams, Matalan, Card Factory and Blue Inc have joined a roster of other top retailers participating in the Brand Licensing Europe Retail Mentoring Programme this year.
Launched in 2010, the six-month program is designed to give retail buyers a wider understanding of the licensing business. Nominated retailers take part in workshops and seminars, including the Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association U.K.’s Licensing Essentials course and Spring Fling networking event in May. The program culminates at Brand Licensing Europe, which will take place in London October 7-9.
“I feel it will be beneficial as we are seeing strong sales from our licensed product and would like to understand how we can develop better product within quicker timescales,” says Victoria Colgan, buyer, toddler boys, Debenhams. “Obviously to coincide with film releases, it’s important to hit the key selling periods. We would also like Assistant Buyers to gain a deeper understanding of the background work which licensors do so they can be empowered to ask appropriate questions.”
Last year more than 45 buying professionals took part in this program. In addition to the new participants, buyers from Boots, J Sainsbury, Tesco and Miniclub are already signed on to take part in this year’s program.
