Animal Logic Entertainment and Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment will develop and produce the first-ever feature-length film starring iconic character Betty Boop.
The deal was brokered by Creative Artists Agency on behalf of Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic, with King Features Syndicate representing Betty Boop creator Fleischer Studios.
Fleischer Studios, Animal Logic and Syco Entertainment are planning a music-driven hybrid animated comedy featuring the starlet.
“Betty is an icon, and one of the biggest stars in the world," says Cowell. "I’m thrilled to be working with her. Betty, I’ve worked with some serious divas but I think you could be the biggest of them all.”
Betty Boop first hit screens in 1930 with numerous appearances in Max Fleischer’s Talkartoons and her own “Betty Boop” cartoon series. Most recently, she starred in a Lancôme campaign and was featured in collaborations with Coca-Cola, NASCAR, Uniqlo and Chupa Chups. Her last movie appearance was a cameo in 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
"I’m so excited, I’m just breathless," says Boop. "Naturally, I will get to sing. And dance, too. You know me, I could dance all night (in fact, I did so recently). There’s lots of work to be done in the days ahead, but we’re over the moon about the project and everything’s booping right along."
