Bagpuss Gets Apparel, Footwear

Coolabi has teamed up with Blues Clothing and Brands International Group to create new apparel and footwear lines for the classic British TV show “Bagpuss.”

“‘Bagpuss’ will be 40 years in February 2014, so what better way to celebrate than with a new nightwear and footwear collection on the high street?” says Fran Huxley, licensing consultant, Coolabi. “Fans of the series will adore these new designs, and we are excited to partner with two great new licensees such as Blues Clothing and Brands International.”

Blues Clothing is planning a collection of girls’, women’s and maternity apparel, nightwear and underwear, while Brands International is creating a range of women’s and girls slippers and novelty plush slippers.

“The market is crying out for reliable characters that provide longevity and offer something different,” says Rob Meara, director of dales, Brand International Group. “Everyone knows and has warm memories of ‘Bagpuss’; the colors and fabrics offer themselves perfectly to footwear.”

Both lines will launch in fall/winter 2014.

“Bagpuss” first aired on the BBC in 1974, and although just 13 episodes were made, the show ran for 26 weeks a year for 13 years. Channel 5 recently voted “Bagpuss” the third greatest kids’ TV program of all time and best character show in a nostalgic countdown of the 50 best British children’s TV series over the past 60 years.

Coolabi represents the rights to the classic brand on behalf of Smallfilms and Peter Firmin.
