Three in every 10 online shoppers (31.4 percent) bought clothing and clothing accessories online on Monday, and that number increased to 46.8 percent among 18- to 34-year-olds.
Other popular items included media like books, DVDs and video games (27.8 percent), electronics (25.2 percent), toys (17.5 percent), personal care or beauty items (12.3 percent), gift cards/certificates (12.2 percent), home décor and home-related furnishings (11.3 percent), jewelry (10.5 percent) and sporting goods/leisure items (10.1 percent).
According to a recent survey conducted by BIGinsight for Shop.org, Cyber Monday shoppers actually spent more on average than consumers on Thanksgiving weekend with Monday online purchases averaging $194.46 per shopper, compared to an average $172.42 over the Thanksgiving weekend.
“There is no question that Cyber Monday has become holiday shoppers’ favorite day to shop online,” says Vicki Cantrell, executive director, Shop.org. “Despite a strong showing online over the holiday weekend, shoppers held back some of their spending for Cyber Monday deals they knew retailers would deliver. And it was another one for the record books.”
