Activision has teamed with IDW Publishing to publish the first-ever Skylanders comic book series, with the debut issue set to launch at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Calif., this July.
Fans of the video game franchise will have the opportunity to follow the adventures of their favorite characters from Skylands. The first issue will be a prequel to the “Skylanders Trap Team” storyline, which will gives fans an inside look at where some of their favorite Skylanders came from, as well as a first look at a few of the all-new characters from the upcoming game.
“We are thrilled to be combining Skylanders, the pioneer of the toys-to-life video game genre, with IDW, one of the industry’s leading comic book publishers in the U.S.,” says Ashley Maidy, vice president, global licensing and partnerships, Activision. “The comic book series will offer fans a glimpse into the back stories of their favorite Skylanders characters, expanding on the universe that they’ve embraced so enthusiastically in the franchise’s short history. To explore the world of Skylands beyond the game is an opportunity we know our fans have long been awaiting, and we couldn’t be more excited to see this manifested through a comic series.”
Skylanders #0, featuring an introductory 16-page story as well as character guides and background information, will launch in both print and digital during SDCC weekend.
Skylanders will also join IDW’s Micro-Comic Fun Packs lineup this fall and will be available in comic book stores as well as at mass market retailers this October.
The series will be distributed in the U.S., Canada, France, Italy, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Australia and New Zealand.
